FlickrRiver , picture viewer for Flickr

Came across another Flickr mashup called FlickRiver. Not sure if it can be called a mashup, as it doesn’t really mix two or more web services. It’s just an alternate viewer for pictures hosted on Flickr.

Features

Photos displayed on a black or a white background. FlickRiver claims that pictures seem better when displayed on a black background.
Photos are displayed in a one continuous stream, one above the other (like a river). I found this really boring at first as I had to scroll down all the time, until I realised there is a simpler keyboard navigation.

Displays larger images, well atleast larger than the thumbnails. One can view the image in its original size by clicking on the image, which then takes you to its flickr.com page

Most interesting Pool photos – see photos in any Pool ordered by interestingness
Random order view – explore any user’s or group’s photos in random order
Photos of user’s contacts – see recent photos from contacts of any user
Beyond the features above, Flickriver has many additional Flickr photo views – user recent photos, favorites, sets, user and everyone’s photos by tag, everyone’s most interesting and recent photos, group and pool photos and more. Also, Flickriver follows the Flickr URL structure as much as possible, so you can easily go back and forth between the two.

You can even embed the flickr-river on your website. Here is an example for search ‘Mumbai’

Found through the Digital Inspiration, website about a new Flickr mashup called Flickrpoet.

How it works ?

Type in a short story phrase in the search box, and it attempts to search flickr and display images it finds.

What I think ?

Great idea, but is dependent on the tags and descriptions (or whatever it searches for) of the images posted on Flickr. After a few tries, I just left the site thinking its useless. But I am sure there would be some phrases you can come up with and entertain yourself.

There is also a sister project called Mapskip.com : Places have stories which I found intriguing but I haven’t explored it as yet so more later.
