Came across an interesting concept from Google, the Google Movie Search

Available at http://www.google.com/movies

Just enter your location, and it shows you the nearby cinema halls, the movies currently running, movie timings, movie ratings and a trailer.

Click on a movie and it also shows you all the cinema halls in the area where the movie is running that day. A link to Google maps instantly shows you where all the cinema halls are located.

Am I hearing this correctly ? Give Google Chrome as a Christmas gift to your ….Grandma ? W T F is my grandma going to do with Google Chrome ? I thought the same thing, but here is what Google is upto

Step 2: Select a theme to wrap your gift in. The theme then dutifully wraps itself around the Google Chrome logo

Step 3: Type in the recipients, your message et all and send.

So what does this do ? Probably just sends a Chrome download link to the recipient, but the main thing I like about this is the Ajax powered design, its lovely ..simple and elegant..and you should give it a try just for the sake of seeing the creation.

What is a great browser ? One that loads up quickly OR one that makes your browsing experience speedier than the other browsers? OR is the add-ons or the extensions which might include functional add ons or themes.

I would say that a major selling point of Firefox initially was its support for extensions which let you do all kinds of goody functional stuff with either the websites, bookmarks, web development functionality or other stuff.

And now Google Chrome is onto the bandwagon announcing that Chrome will support extensions, and which can be downloaded from https://chrome.google.com/extensions/

You would have to however, download the latest beta version of Chrome for running these extensions.

Preview your Adsense ads with the sandbox or with a Firefox plugin

As a webmaster earning through Google Adsense, it is very handy to know which advertisements Adsense is showing to surfers from another country.

and also, which advertisements would show up for a particular keyword.

There is an easy utility to do just that, it is called the AdSense Sandbox. I found one working version on this blog

What is the Google Chrome Omnibar ?

One of the best known features of Google Chrome is the Omnibar or the so called ‘Psychic Bar’ by the developers.

Simply speaking it combines the address bar and the search box in one. So you would type in your search query right where you would have typed the web page url.

And Google Chrome goes further. It guesses what you are looking for, by showing you a list of websites from your browser history, bookmarks and search results from Google.

You can also search inside a website from your address bar, by pressing the tab key.

Google India announces the Google India Women in Engineering Award

Google has once again announced its yearly award for Indian female students studying Computer Science or a related discipline. Google says that it is part of its commitment to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, by recognizing and rewarding deserving women and inspiring them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.

Eligibility Criteria

Full-time students from recognized institutions
Area of specialization must be Computer Science Engineering or related majors
Second to final year students from a bachelor’s program
All students from a master’s or PhD program
Cumulative CGPA of at least 4.0 on a 5.0 scale, 8.0 on a 10.0 scale or equivalent (What is a CGPA?)

The awards are based on the candidates academic background and demonstrated leadership, and the award recipients will receive a cash prive of Rs 1 lakh (approx US$2000) each. This is a one time award and not a scholarship.

Application Dates

Opens on 15 Sept 2009 and closes on 31 Oct 2009. The award will be announced in January 2010
